Dashcam

Decided that my ancient dashcam needs updating, the choice is bewildering. Any advice on a sensible one please.

One with GPS.

Why? Don't need to set the time. Plus records speed and location.

I use one to record all trips in LR, and even keep the off road forays!

I have the K2 system on my bikes and cars, very good indeed.

I bought this one last summer along with the GPS aerial, really good, front and back camera and fits wonderfully behind the rear view mirror.  Great pictures.

Watch some Russian Road Rage videos. They always have the model of Dashcam showing on the display somewhere. Choose one that looks good.

I have a Blackvue camera in my daily driver. https://www.blackvue.co.uk/

It is small and inoffensive sitting behind the mirror. Hard wired in too so no trailing wires across the dash.
Not cheap but then I haven't had to go near it in 5 years, it just works. You pay for what you get.

No, you'll need to source a pair of 1/8" wander plugs and connect them to a 12V to 5V USB power converter. AND always plug them in to the correct polarity!

Probably easier to fit a cigarette lighter socket if the Landy is negative earth.

So long as you keep the body of the cigarette lighter insulated from the vehicle, the polarity of the vehicle electrics doesn't really matter, so long as you wire it up correctly.

I made a magnetic box for my one using a plastic electrical enclosure. It plugs into the dash sockets but being plastic everything is insulated from the bodywork.

That's a neat solution. The magnet mounting is a good idea.  :first

Thanks.
I haven't got a picture of the back but I glued a square of that non slip drawer liner material to the back then added a 10mm round Neodymium magnet in each corner. It sticks well on the bulkhead and when the switch is turned on, gives me a digital volt meter, the cigarette accessory socket and a couple of USB's for the phone or SatNav.

When I don't want it there at a car show, simply pull it off and stick it in the locker under the passenger seat.
