Can I suggest it is worth the club keeping copies of as many different versions as possible.

It is very helpful to have access to a version as close as possible to your own vehicle if you are trying to work out what is original and what has been changed. This isn't just for us rivet counters - if you need to order replacement parts and what you have is no longer original you may need to order replacements which now fit - pendant vs. non-pendant steering arms, change to S3 rods and TREs, changes in size of wheel stud etc. Some secondhand repair parts actually go backwards rather than forwards - particularly true of things like engines and gearboxes. This means it is easier to have access to all the manuals to sort out the particular thing you need.

Even the Unipart numbers are useful. I sometimes find that certain parts are not available from the normal suppliers but they happen to be common to certain other vehicles in the BL range and the Unipart numbers show them up from other specialist suppliers.

Can I suggest it is worth the club keeping copies of as many different versions as possible....

I fully agree with the principle; it's what I started doing immediately I became interested in 'Series 2's'.
I have frequently used the ability to compare different catalogues when assisting to suggest solutions to queries on the forum.
However this experience has led me to believe it is a very small niche of S2 owners who share this view (as many different versions as possible). Most struggle to read one version, never mind 'many' versions, to establish the most appropriate.

I am not going to suggest what the Club should do.

Regards.

Hi,

Probably OT, or even irrelvant, but I use something called DISPLAY FOLDERS (Ebay, etc) for holding multiple sheets of data.

The price changes with the number of pages capacity I think you can get up to 40 page capacity ... and none of those fragile punched holes (re-enforce the page edge with Selotape before punching?). But no hard covers. You might get a complete SECTION into one folder.

More workshop friendly than a ring-binder .... each page is held in a clear plastic pocket. Lays flat, when open.

I have now added Andrew's pdf file downloads to our Technical library on the website.

We have:-

1) The Late 2A Parts Manual.

2) The Suffix H Station Wagon All Synchro Gear Box Manual.

3) The late 2A Optional Parts Catalogue.

Hi,

I think a LEVER-LOCK four hole folder will be more user friendly, but more expensive, than the four "little ring" type that will try to bite your fingers.

I would run a strip of Sellotape down the edge of the pages, before punching the holes, to stop them tearing.

But better still, buy pre-punched "pockets". Extract the page(s) you need, take only those you need into the shed, wipe the grease off with a tissue, before loading them back into the folder.

Thanks Alan,
Really helpful. Saves me having to use my clean copies in the workshop. I can now use one of my old T4 laptops as a sacrificial reference point.

I like pdf copies of manuals, I can print out the relevent pages and put in plastic wallets to take to the job and keep my nice clean manuals in the house.  Unfortunately the manuals for our 80" predate the use of computers and arevery oily, the odd page is almost impossible to read.

I too have a losse leaf version of the S3 workshop manual.

It's a sign of the times when a laptop is more sacrificial than a parts manual!

Printing off a page from the parts manual is very useful when making personal visits to your local parts place.

Better still, copy the page(s) to your phone - saves paper  :first

Sometimes you get a knowledgeable partsman on the counter, but often not.
Just whip out your sheet and say; "I'd like this & that, please."
Saves a lot of time and you are more likely to get what you want.

Okay... guess I need to embarrass myself and ask - where is the 'technical library'?  I've looked through the workshop wisdom section - since the wiring diagrams are there - and didn't see them.

You need to go to the main series 2 club site and log in there. You also need to be a paid up club member.

http://www.series2club.co.uk/public_pages/home.php

It is a different login to the forum however so if you haven't used it before you will need to speak to Alan (Wittsend) and get a log in I think. Once in there is a workshop tab and all the manuals are under there.
