Engine change & DVLA
« on: June 02, 2021, 11:01:02 PM »

Hello,
I am quite interested in buying an early series 2a from another member.
The car was originally powered with a 2.25 petrol, which was later changed to a 2.25 diesel for fuel economy reason by a previous owner.

The current owner, whom bought the car to restore it, decided to switch the engine back to a 2.25 petrol (not original but period correct), but the V5 still shows the Diesel engine.

He told me he’s tried to update the V5 but the DVLA has been dragging their feet and he gave up in the end.
Can you please tell me what’s involved in getting the V5 updated to reflect the change, if the engine isn’t original?
I want to make sure that if I buy this car, I am not “stuck” with a V5 not matching the vehicle I own.
Thanks

Speak to our VRO Peter Holden at [email protected]

It's a fairly straight forward process for a Vehicle of Historic Interest.
Vehicles registered as VofHI do NOT need letters or certificates or inspections.
However, as a matter of fact you should inform your insurers who (rarely) may ask for an engineer's report - although an MoT should satisfy them.

But if you approach the DVLA incorrectly and not having taken Peter's advice - it could end in tears.
