Someone I know managed to do this earlier this week on site, where we are "doing something".
Fortunately the instrumentation equipment has carrying was in a robust carry-case and still works.
Don't ask!

No Land Rovers were harmed during this event.

In case anyone was wondering, there have been a few more exciting roads but my younger daughter (9) is terrified of us going off metalled roads (mainly after the car slid of its own accord from stationary on the first one) so we have generally kept to the more sensible routes. The road to Asclepiou castle was exciting enough that I got out and walked one section in advance though.

Annoyingly, someone has reversed into the back of the car, leaving a dent, and then driving off, so that's the deposit gone. Almost worth taking it down some more exciting routes tomorrow morning now anyway...

There are stand alone car hire excess insurance policies you can buy for this scenario. They even cover the tyres and car underside that hire companies like to exclude. Bit late for this trip but might be handy for next time.

Well, this year it’s Kos and a Nissan Note. It has so far particularly enjoyed the trip to Cavo Paradiso along 3 miles of spectacular unmetalled road and a trip through the forest to see the peacocks. Southern European hire cars truly are unstoppable (except the one we saw today on the main road where a front wheel appeared to have fallen off!)

Bit tricky while driving the most interesting bits but these give an idea.
