Do we wave to New Defenders ?

Do we wave, salute, acknowledge 'them' or avert our eyes?

I've only had one wave so far. He was trying so hard I could hardly not wave back (he was practically hanging out of the window trying to get my attention).

Maybe he had forgotten which "Defender" he was driving.  ???

I thought I saw one when I was waiting to cross the road the other day. Had it been a proper Land Rover I would have been certain but it just blended in with all the other anonymous blobs.

If I'm in my 2A, I won't wave at one, but if I'm driving one I'll wave/flash at a Series.😁

Are we talking about the new LR "Defender", the Grenadier, or the other Defender that supposedly being made (the limited edition one)?

I have noticed 'proper' Defender (i.e. up to 2016) drivers wave at me in the Series IIA.

I know 9 people who have bought the new Defender. All have paid over £80K for their pride and joy. All have spent a minimum of 14 days in dealerships for unforeseen breakdowns in the last 6 months. One has had is car for 3 weeks in a three month period- the rest its been in various dealerships. 4 people have got rid of them already or done a buy back.

All I can do with new Defender drivers is look at them with pity. Its obviously a cracking car. Styling isn't to my taste, but clearly people like them or there wouldn't be that many round this neck of the woods. First Land Rover I've genuinely not wanted to own, which is worrying!

Mind you - I've just this morning had to tow a Discovery 5 down the road which packed up completely on somebody in the middle of the road. Getting to the recovery eye was a bundle of laughs. At least there's a lever under the bonnet to pull to force it into Neutral or we'd have been completely screwed.

If someone waves at me I'll wave back  :wave

The wave started way back in the days before cars got the headlight flasher function.
It's not easy to reach across and switch the lights on and off in a Series 2, by which time the other Series 2 will have long since passed to say nothing of rubbishing your 60 year old light switch.

The wave also was a "secret" signal that the road ahead was clear. Clear of Police speed traps.

Motorcyclists do the finger wave for when it's clear.

The AA and RAC road patrols did the same - they would wave at cars with their rad badge.
If they didn't, expect trouble up ahead.

Stirling Moss said if your going to wave - acknowledge an act of chivalry on the road (someone lets you out or gives way) - do a proper wave/salute.

When in the LWT I do a proper army salute :wave

Diffwhine, I 'm a bit puzzled about the underbonnet lever.on the Discovery 5 "to force it into neutral." Presume this is for the automatic transmission.
I'm always wary about towing another vehicle. I've heard that solid towbars have to be used so that lets out my 12 ton rope.
I did tow a Skoda off the nearby roundabout last year. The idiot hadn't screwed the towing eye in properly and it came out. Fortunately there was no damage and a police patrol car was assisting in warning other traffic. OT I know. I wouldn't tow a new "Defender". I didn't think auto transmission vehicles could be towed.
