Kismet Trolley Compressors
« on: July 26, 2021, 07:09:51 PM »

Anyone remember Kismet Trolley Compressors made by William Turner in Sheffield? I've got one in working order. I bought it for £3 at a local auction decades ago. It came with other bits. It needed only a new airline which I got from an old footpunp.
It looks like a trolley jack except it has a large brass barrel and a long handle as it's hand operated. It's quicker to use just to top up my 7.50's than it is to rig up the T Max twin cylinder compressor. It was made when British engineering was first class . Each pivot point has an oil cup. I reckon it's about 70/75 years old although it could be prewar.
It goes well with Land Rovers.

Yes, I remember them.  There was one on the farm where I worked in the 1970s.  When I first saw it and a flat rear tractor tyre at the same time I wondered how many hours it would take me to inflate the tyre.  I was amazed the speed at which it inflated the tyre.

I was very lucky to inherit a Kismet Duplex foot pump in the 1980s.  It needed new washers to get it working properly, but now that it's going well I use it in preference to a compressor on all my vehicles.

Some years ago I got my SII out of 10 years storage.  All five tyres were down to about 4psi.  In the time it took for one cigarette lighter powered compressor to inflate one tyre to 25 psi I had inflated all the other four to the same pressure!

Kismet is the best!   :first

Vintage pumps is who I bought the replacement washer/seal kit from for my Kismet Duplex.  Very good quality materials and they came with excellent fitting tips and instructions.  I highly recommend them.

Thanks for the info Gritstoner. I've contacted Gordon Edwards and am buying a refurbished Kismet Duplex footpump to keep in the Land Rover as the trolley compressor is too big and heavy to carry around.
I emptied the piggy banks recently so that will fund the purchase.

My Kismet Duplex footpump arrived yesterday from Gordon Edwards. It's a very impressive piece of kit. I can't try it on the Land Rover yet as the sun had warmed up the tyres bit I tried it on the 185/70x14 tyres on my MGB GT. Immediately I could tell it was quality by the way it pumped and 20 pumps put nearly 5 psi in the tyre.

Unfortunately Gritstoner, I don't know how to put a photo on the forum and it's unlikely I'll understand any instructions. I'm purely mechanical, anything electronic or computer related apart from absolute basics is Greek to me.
