As said, you can't.
But you can make it awkward for them.
First line of defence is don't let them know it's there.Keep it out of sight, keep it off social media etc.
Next fit something to slow them down. Hidden Immobilizer or steering lock etc, plenty on the market.
Fit CCTV. Just fitted one myself, it's very good for the money (£180), it can be set up to alarm if it detects people etc.
Fit a tracker. Had a play with a trutrack and again it works well. The "fencing" feature works well and I get a notification that the asset has moved, with data stamped tracking.
Yes I am aware that all these devices can be disabled, but they would need to go some to move it off my home location without me knowing and releasing the hounds.
Finally - get some hounds  :-X

PS most of this is for my caravan, they don't just steal landrovers and need to move my van toget at the Landrover :cheers

Death penalty... That's my solution.

As I have suggested in previous similar threads, my issue is the deterrent isn't there. Theft of a motor vehicle or handling stolen goods isn't deemed serious enough to warrant a significant custodial sentence. Its a bit like poaching ivory - you need to stamp on the end user, to kill the demand and therefore make theft (or poaching) less viable.

A quick wander round the Newbury Sortout last week proves the point. Far too much stuff there was clearly decidedly on the warm side. Don't start me off on eBay either...

Didn't see much ivory there though...

We all know what the solutions is - but it ain't going to happen.

And so we are back to CCTV, trackers, and big dogs and keeping our fingers crossed :shakeinghead

Hi,

Quite a few years ago, in the Swansea Valley, a car was stolen from a dealer's forecourt, despite being behind a high chain link fence.

Apparently the car was driven into the fence ... which stretched and lifted, so the car could drive underneath.

A stolen car was driven round and round, in the woods up the road behind my house, then torched. The car belonged to a jeweller, with the boot full of "samples".

I once came across a pre-teen boy sitting the driver's seat of an "abandoned" van parked in our back-lane I dragged him out. He didn't seem particularly concerned by the bonfire on the back seat.

I’d never heard of Trutrack so I’ve just looked them up and I shall definitely be giving them a try. It’s stuff like this that makes this forum really useful.

And all the other good stuff obviously.  :o

I've always wondered on a Series 2A or earlier LR where you could hide a tracker securely but not impact on its effectiveness. If its behind the dash for example on a Series 2, surely that is effectively placing a transmitter in a sealed metal box. Does that not have a Faraday Effect?

Open forum is probably not the best place to discuss tracker locations, but if anybody has a good solution, please drop a PM as I'd be very interested.

I’ve got on of the green ‘ardcase ones, and it’s very well made and uses a much better lock than most.

Failing that two large Dogs can be useful.
Any thief can cope with any dog. Get some guard geese!

Yes, geese are good.

HM Customs & Excise use them to guard bonded warehouses.

A big snake is also good :snake

Another vote for the green 'ardcase!  Substantially constructed, weighty, and with a good quality lock.  Had mine a few years now, and very satisfied.

I tested the TruTrak on my Jimny before it got fitted to my Caravan, simply so I could easily test its function. They simply show it fitted to the top of the battery (bit dumb) in the engine bay, with the steel bonnet slammed shut on top. So this is how I tested it.
It worked fine, the fact it was under the bonnet had no impact, so plenty of places you can hide one. It now lives inside my caravan and works in that also. It's good in that I get emails and texts to tell me it's moved outside of my "ring fenced" area, and I can see it's location on the same phone. It even sends a text to tell me my caravan battery is low.
