Haverfordwest Land Rover rally 1960
« on: August 15, 2021, 03:02:32 PM »

I have just added this cup to my collection of early LROC items and wondered whether anyone might have further information about the event, or indeed the recipient? Thanks.

Might be worth getting in touch with Greens Motors in Haverfordwest. They have been going since the dawn of time. They may have something in their archives given that they were (and still are) the local Land Rover dealer then.

An interesting find and I wonder who organised the event as there is no mention on the cup . The National LROC Ltd Rally in 1960 was at Rover (Lode lane) /Fenny Compton in Warwickshire . The Section areas of the LROC near that time were Scottish, Northern, Midland, South Eastern, South Western, Overseas,  and Australia.

Thanks to my friend Michiel who has pointed me to a 1958 edition of Rover Review the company produced magazine of the LROC which lists the lady in question as taking part in an event that year in her 80", which incidentally is still apparently on the road.

Her husband also entered in another Land Rover. It seems they came from Shrewsbury, so quite how the trophy came to be offered on eBay by a French antiques dealer is a mystery.

The Campbell-Lamberts were part of the Vaughan family, so probably had Welsh connections.

If they are still alive they are in their late 70's

Nice find! How it ended up in France is indeed a mystery  ???

EGV 436 is indeed still on the road according to DVLA records.
