Ebay Seller Rules
« on: August 21, 2021, 07:11:31 PM »

I advertised some car bumpers on Ebay auction. (I should know better :shakeinghead )

I do not know what car they fit, but gave full dimensions and photos

I also clearly marked the ad

" Please check it will fit your car before bidding

PLEASE VIEW THE PHOTOS AS THESE FORM PART OF THE DESCRIPTION. THIS IS SOLD AS SEEN AND RETURN IS NOT OFFERED,"

After 2 days. the chancer that won the auction hasn't paid and has just sent me a message "can you confirm these bumpers fit Austin Devon?"

I never mentioned Austin Devon anywhere (and know they wont fit one anyway)  and recon he is just trying to back out of the deal.

Reading the new Ebay seller stuff it would appear that I no longer need to open a "non payment" case but Ebay will do it automatically if the buyer doesnt pay after 4 days and you will not have to pay final value fee.

Apparently I can also cancel the deal but read "If you cancel an order it is considered a transaction defect, and could affect your seller performance level".

Is it best just to ignore the buyer and wait the 4 days before listing again? I do not now trust the buyer even if he pays for them as he will probably find as way of rejecting them after delivery.

Naturally you'll send tracked.

Buyer protection and returns can be a *&%^$.

What sort of feedback does the alleged scrote have as this could give you some confidence in the sale, if dire then better to pull the plug before hand and to heck with seller profile.

In future it may be list such items as spares or repair as I'm told there is no come back

Sending items signed for does not seem to work as I have found some carries just leave the parcel on the step outside the door, take a picture and drive off, the buyer then says he never got the parcel and it must have been stolen and they want their money back!

^^^^  I've had that with deliveries within six months ago and as long as the courier classified it as delivered I've not had any issue with eBay, they had an " inquest " but I've not lost out so far. You do need to add tracking number to the eBay system.

I have the joy of selling on eBay for a living.

If he doesn't pay, all good. If he does, send tracked. As a private seller you can dictate 'no returns.' You can't as a business seller.

You can cancel an order without affecting seller metrics, but you have to select "buyer asked to cancel" as the reason. This needs the buyer to confirm. If you mark as dispatched and wait a day or so, you can also select customer return and it won't affect your metrics.

As a private seller and a one off I would just cancel the order any way you like and forget about it as it only matter if you're selling a lot of stuff.

I purchased two rear brake cylinders.
Payment made, but 4 days later informed not available, but will refund.
My payment was taken out on Purchase. 10 Days later no refund as yet.

I try to avoid eBay nowadays, preferring to sell Land Rover stuff on here or through friends.
So many people who don’t read listings and then complain at pick up / receipt.
For example, I clearly stated (in capitals) in the listing that the wheels would not fit a defender as they are for a disco 2 / P38, chap turns up collects and then complains that he can’t get them on his defender  so they can’t be Land Rover wheels etc.
