Land Rovers selling ice cream
« on: August 26, 2021, 12:25:41 PM »

We had a picture in our local paper today of the 2A ice cream van on Hemsby Beach.
I know of other Land Rover ice cream vans.

Anyone got pictures of others ???

I have seen the Whitby one, took this photo on a holiday in 2019

I seem to remember when I was a lot younger seeing 6 wheeled Range Rovers on Woolacombe beach. Presumably ex Carmichael fire tenders.

I'm really only asking about Series 2/2A ice cream vans (and whether there are any others still trading).

As an aside.
I can recommend the Whitby Tour Bus (in the background)  :first
Saves walking up all those steps to the Abbey.
If you want you can walk back down, or take the next bus.

There used to be a Sentinel Steam Bus a few years ago, no longer running sadly, but great fun when it was

Not aware of that but I'm on the beach next week with Sue Black so I'll ask her and see if she has any photos

There was one at polzeath years ago.

I worked ar westward tv in 1980 and they had a specially converted Range Rover to a 6 wheeler. Big topboxes, roof rack etc.
We always use to laugh it looked like an ice cream van. Hideous thing.
I have. A suspicion it may have ended up in n Devon as an ice cream van.

The rear non driven wheels on sand were a great feature.

Hockings still run a Defender as an ice cream van in North Devon. Looks really smart. I'm thinking of applying for a driver's job in my retirement...
Not a Series 2, but very smart anyway!
