Military headlights (again)
« on: August 28, 2021, 06:01:25 PM »

Hi all ,
Is it possible to fit military headlight rings to civvy headlights? I have aquired a pair of military headlight surrounds and essentially most of the guts of one , tge lens of which has a FV number on the glass , looking at the unaffordium prices of these fitting to existing civvy lights is my only option short of selling the bits on ,
Cheers

If the question is will standard 7"sealed beam or halogen conversion units fit the military headlight assembly the answer is yes. I have halogen conversion glass bowls in my military lights.

Hi , Ihave the halogens in my headlamps , I have the outer military rings but only 1 of the inner rings , the fitted headlights are pure civvy , my car is is a 1959 4x2 ex war dept  mk6 1/4ton model , the  military headlights are hugely expensive and beyond my justifiable budget when the headlights are working fine as they are ,

Mine had been messed about with considerably. Patience and watching ebay etc got me there in the end.

 :ditto
With the parts you already have I'd imagine another £150 ish would get you the rest. "Hugely expensive" maybe in comparison to the cheap generic Paddocks plastic bowl offerings but originality is beginning to cost more nowadays. In comparison to the 2nd hand O/S headlight assembly we had to buy for our 2015 Mazda 6 after a low fence attack the wife military headlights are cheap :agh :agh

^^^If it is for the pair, probably worthwhile. Note though that the lenses are for left hand drive so will dip the wrong way.

Interesting that its coming from the UAE. A Gulf State releasing stocks ?  Previous rumours of air-conditioned shed-fulls of Saudi National Guard Lightweights etc...

That seller has some nice stuff in amongst the usual junk. Interesting that in the "see seller's other items" section, some items appear to be subject to 20% VAT, but not all. Might be worth noting that there could be a VAT charge on the import?

The lens pattern suggests a modern "kick-up" dip pattern. If so, a couple of pieces of strategically placed tape will "convert" the dip pattern to legal with just a flat top so no dazzle for oncoming traffic but no extra kerbside light either. Think of reversed continental dip converters.
