It is the polite thing to do in displaying your location on your profile. As said, especially when contemplating a purchase, one can decide on whether to say yes or no. If you have to message first to find where said item is, someone else that knows the seller may step in and say yes before you do.
I can't see a problem in showing your location. I don't understand why some folks should feel the need to hide it.

.... and not just for buying & selling.

Useful to know where people are when THEY are asking for help or advice on fixing their vehicle and where to buy parts from locally, or local garage services ???

I think a lot of users just don't explore "behind" the forum pages and look through their "Profile" rather than they are all paranoid.
