The exhaust heat shield, Is to stop the pax from frying their feet, lol not got one on mine, I don't think it needs it tbh, it doesn't get that hot that you notice it

Gets a bit toasty on the feet in the summer.  I don't want to use a wrap, have heard horror stories about that, so the nephew and I are looking at fabricating something.

Some terry clips and a sheet of something made up will do it to hook onto the exhaust would do it

OK
I got the wrong heat shield.

You can make your own, if not having the OE part to hand.

You need 2 exhaust U-bolts about 1¾" to fit round the exhaust pipe. You then cut a piece of alloy plate to the size you think you'll need and fasten it in place with the U-bolt fixing nuts. After some use with collected mud etc. no one will notice it's not original.

I made a mini heat shield like this to protect the speedo cable as it bends out of the transfer box.

  Dont worry about using the pipe wrap stuff, I have had it on my rover for 10 years now to protect the transmission from excess heat it works great and will not cause your exhaust pipe to rot away any faster than normal. (That seems to be a old wives tale).
  You can almost grab the pipe after a run it works that good.

  We also use it on the steam trains at work no problems. We use a fiberglass based product you soak it in water before installing it as that helps keep the dust down, its horribly itchy stuff to work with.

Thanks.  I've read in various places that it causes really bad rot, perhaps it wasn't applied right or an inferior product.  It wouldn't hurt to give it a try though... if it looks like it's getting iffy it can always be removed.  Just need to do something.

I just noticed I didn't get the part number changed in the original post - my fault.

Following are the heat shields that I was wondering about.

The second pic is of a 6-cyl heat shield unless I am mistaken. I have an original one of these and I will be remanufacturing a batch at some point (hopefully this year). I've said this a few times but it will be happening, not least because I want one for my own vehicle!  :-X

The front 4 cyl shield is only on half the pipe like the horizontal one. The horizontal one goes on top of the pipe so the floor doesn’t get too hot, but the front one goes on the front of the pipe and was used with the swan neck manifolds as the pipe is exposed to water thrown from the tyre which caused the hot pipes to crack.

So I take it that its pretty similar to the old Series 1 arrangement?

I'm sure I've come across somebody making those - just can't remember where for the life of me.

The series one shields are reproduced by a LRSOC member(I think it is Neil Taylor) and appear on eBay regularly.
Whether they are the same as series two shields I’m not sure. I have a set in my workshop I could measure and photograph if required.

Might have been said earlier in the thread but you only need the exhaust shields if your exhaust exits the engine bay via the inner wing as it runs down in front of athe toe box and under the floor.  If you have an inner wing mud shield and it is spaced out from the tow box you may not need that shield

Presumably these shields were also fitted to LHD vehicles?

They may make more sense in a LHD one to protect the steering box and drop arm ball joint that would be in close proximity to the exhaust.

I had a series III 2286 petrol for some time and that never had a shield. I don't remember the footwells ever getting that hot.
