Seats
« on: September 20, 2021, 08:31:35 AM »

Might seem like a daft question, but as I haven’t sat in a series 2 and need to check something, as I  don’t have the seats so will need to purchase them. I intend fitting Elephant hide seats.
It’s actually 1959 SWB. The seat frames are the original fixings non adjustable. Does anybody have a problem reaching the pedals with seats using non adjustable brackets. If it helps  I’m 5ft 8 with short legs 29”
Thanks

Mike, I am a little taller than you at 5' 9" but with a 29" inside leg and I have no problem reaching the pedals in my SWB '59 with fixed standard seats.

I'm pretty much the same, 5'7" with 29 inside leg
I have adjustable seats on my Station wagon but need them all the way back to be comfortable. I would think you will be fine in the standard seats.  :RHD

Gordon Lowe might be able to help - I believe he has some platform shoes (still) !

You'll be fine
The fitting might be miore of an issue as the bottom of the original seat fitted in the "recess" and were stopped by the little right angle peices plus the leather strap
I'm not sure how the new ones are meant to be attached
Worth checking with Exmoor Trim maybe?

Again - I'm 5ft 8"" with a 29" leg, and I find no problems at all reaching the pedals.  It's as though Land Rover designed the driving position around the average male height in the 1950 -1960's....... :RHD

I'm 5'6" with 29" inseam.  Grover had the original style seats when I got him- no issues.  Grover now has the deluxe seats - still no issues.  In fact, while driving around last Friday it popped into my head "nice fit, feels great, just the right size for for me".

I have a friend who is 6'2" +, he was behind the wheel once.  Poor guy looked like he had been crazed down inside the thing.  He admitted he was uncomfortable and was a bit worried about how he was going to unfold himself to get out.

^^^^ Exactly why the PO sold Tonka. An elderly gentlemen with genetics from a crane fly, he said it was just too uncomfortable. He invested the proceeds in a vintage Riley.

The seats in a lightweight are about as basic as you can get, especially the back-rest, simply thin pads of foam. No adjustment, no frame.

I'm relatively tall with 34" in seam and find the 88 pretty good. Worst part is my right knee rattling on the door capping and ducking down to see traffic lights. I have set my pedals pretty low so I can keep my heels on the floor and feet on the pedals when needed. I wedge my right foot on the footwell side to support it or it would be awful. Need a harder spring really so I can rest my foot on the pedal.

Looking forward to putting seats in the 109 I'm doing as there is potential for a fair bit more leg room as the rear bulkhead is further back.

I'm 6'2" with a 31" leg.... (odd I know). I have the de-lux seats on frames and rails (only fitted them so I could teach the kids to drive it  :cheers). Leg wise its pretty spot on - have to crane my head somewhat to see more than 10foot of road though.. :-X
