Trailer insurance
« on: January 19, 2022, 12:21:18 PM »

Kinda landrover related, it's pulled by a landrover..

I need some insurance for my flat bed trailer, not having g had any before would anyone here have any recommendations in company's?

I just need a policy to cover theft and accident damage on a private domestic use trailer.

What should I be paying?

Can't advise directly, but why not have a chat with Universal Trailers in Billingshurst?

For domestic use see if you can get it added onto your car policy if not already covered. We use NFU but it is for commercial use

Right first quote I had back was £110 for the year! I think I'll try My car insurers tomorrow to see if they can offer anything

Mine is with my Defender insurer - NFU. I know that's not much use as I don't recall how much it was but I'll check.

Had a word with nfu and unfortunately they can only add a trailer to a vehicle policy so not a option for me currently.

Adrian flux came back at £90 for the year. Do they offer club discount?

Did you ask ???

Most of the classic car insurers give a discount if you are a member of a car club.

Its always going to be cheaper to add the trailer to an existing policy than have it as a standalone. At the sort of prices we are paying for our vehicles  the staff, admin and IT costs must take up a very high % of the total bill.

Hi,

Your trailer is covered by the tow-car's policy when they are connected ... but I don't know if that is Comprehensive. I'm pretty certain it does cover Third Party.

Your house insurance probably covers the occupants against non-3rd party claims, and theft of bicycles, etc. I assume jewellry is covered when away from the house ... and even abroad.

It might be worth reading both policy documents.

Would your house policy cover a trailer when not "motorised"? Dunno!

I was told that any trailer being towed correctly was covered for 3rd party insurance only, not any damage or loss to the trailer.
