Hi,

Could the eight blades suggest it's from av BMC engine? Asking ... not saying.

OT ... I once fitted a multi-blade Mini  fan to an A35. MISTAKE!

The A35 fan dragged air IN through the radiator, while the Mini fan pushed air OUT through the radiator. A conflict of interests.

I once fitted an Escort 1300 radiator to one of my Landy S1 projects. It only boiled when the coolant level was very low, due to a small leak. I eventually girded my lions, and fixed the leak.

I suggest that a Series Landy is over-cooled. Two blades might be enoughn .. any volunteers? And YES, I can see the attraction of a pretty yellow fan, with lots of blades. But spinning a fan blade costs petrol (???). Has anybody ever tried to fit a thermostatically feathered fan? And many yonks ago, you could buy an aftermarket, centifugally featheredv fan. Still?

Hi,

Try this for size (and economy).

8 blade fans were fitted to LR fire engines etc, and basically anything that was expected to sit running for a long time.

Hi,

Thanks for that.

Hi Alan,

Thanks! I'll add that to my grey "data bank".

Er ... was there any difference to the engine note? Memory says that the early Minis changed from a 4-bladed steel fan to a multi-bladed plastic fan, to reduce the "wail". I think my new fan cost me fifteen shillings in 1963 or 1964.

I don't know about extra engine noise, but the 8-blader in my LWT blows a hurricane of warm air back over the bulkhead to the point where I don't really miss not having a heater. On a hot day it really gets quite hot in the cab, all the windows need to be open.

Club members can access the Optional Extras Catalogue in the members section on the website.
In fact a lot of the questions you ask can be found by browsing the manuals and service newsletters we have there.

I've got two of these, both of which went through the radiator and have suffered some bending! Keep meaning to straighten them up.

They're also twin pulley. Well, my ones are. Unfortunately sold a long time ago. Wish I had kept the double front pulley and alternator double! Must be like hens teeth now
