Title: Wanted: New Picture for Membership Cards
Post by: Genem on September 08, 2021, 10:31:50 AM
We are about to order a new batch of membership cards and I'd like to "refresh" the picture used on the paper with each batch.

It needs to have some specifics - To be a "Clean" close-cropped shot of one of our vehicles, preferably with the front to the left of the image - it needs to stand out when printed at about 2in square.

What have you got in your archives, feel free to set something up if you like !   I've got a couple of weeks to get something to the printers, we have 500 cards left...

One of the original drafts to give an idea..

Worms eye view one? Maybe the wrong colour for a white piece of paper.

I favour something that looks more to the era of a bygone age, as represented by the Series 11. A shiny modern photograph just doesn't do it for me.

A painting or sketch would fit the bill brilliantly. Maybe situated on a farm doing what they were built for.

One of my all-time favourite paintings is that by David Shepherd. Titled "On Shed". As atmospheric as you could imagine and a wonderful representation of the age of steam.

Follow this link and then hover your cursor over the painting to see the magic

Some interesting thoughts, the plan is to refresh the image with every batch of cards and to use members vehicles if at all possible.

So far we have not had a "lights in grille" one as far as I can remember ?  By all means a "working" image, we've already had a "splashing through a ford" shot...

I realize that Alan, and although it would be good to commission David Shepherd I doubt our club funds are quite up to that either.
No, I put the idea of a sketch out there hoping that from within our ranks would come someone good at drawing  ???

Tim that is a good Sheffield registration number.  Was your land rover sold new by Crabtree and Nicol?

If you look at Gene's 1st post and how the image sits on the membership card letter.

Not too much detail and no extraneous "extras" to detract from the subject.
Don't want people and other cars in the shot, makes the image to busy & fussy.
Remember the image space is only about 2" square.

A commissioned drawing needs to be small and simple.

Maybe Louise Limp could be asked for a little cameo ?

All the info I have Peter is from Gaydon and that it was built 8/6/61 in Bronze Green, despatched 23/6/61 to Henly's, London.

I'd prefer to keep it to "real" pics of members vehicles, with a new one every time re get a re-print ?

I think this picture sums up Series 2 ownership.
Stuck in the mud and as you jump out of the drivers seat you realise you’ve forgotten your wellies. Meanwhile your friends just take pictures and the mick.

Since I am only on this forum and not a club member I am hesitant to weigh in.

So I am jumping in with both feet!

How about taking the winners from the monthly photo contest and having a runoff vote on the 12 and the grand winner goes on the card? Yearly? ???

Now back to the sideline................

Genpcache's idea is a good one, it gets my vote.

Also Oddjob's photo of the mud and the invisible wellies must be up there for realism.

I rather liked Romahomepete's photo of the one on the back of the recovery truck too.

Good luck all

BW

Oops. I posted from my phone and didn't realise! The mud did however end up coming over Terry's wellies as I have another photo somewhere of him trying to dry his trousers in front of the fire but you don't want to see that!

Hi,

Reference that picture of the deep mud ... Barbara did something similar, walking through "well mashed mud" beside a pony paddock gate.

Her wellies are still in the mud (as far as we know) and she had to borrow a black bag, to wear as a dress, as her jeans went in deep, as well.

It was quite usual to wear a black bag while riding your Honda 50, on Penang Island. The skies emptied, at knocking off time.

To the question ... membership cards should be made from sturdy plastic, the same thickness as feeler gauges for checking CB points. Surely there are other tools, or "almanac" type stuff, that can be added to the card.

And can they be coloured GOLD, so if anybody gets a glimpse of it in your wallet ......

Motif? How about the Land Rover "oval"?      An oval card?

Hi Alan,

That first picture reminds me of a 2CV I saw, many yoncs ago.

I sign on the back said ....

YOUR CAR IS UGLY TOO!

PS. Actually, I quite like the car in that photo ... but then, I've got the ugliest wife, and the smelliest dog, and .....  :-X

Hi,

How about marking the edges ... top edge in eights of an inch, bottom edge in tenths, one end marked in metric, the other end in cubits? And one corner dedicated to digging stones out of horses hooves tyre treads

OT ... the RAF document authorising a journey was exactly 12" long ... so you could measure the skid marks.

What are the chances of using a shiny membership card as a heliograph?

602 (When I first joined a Series club, I didn't need a membership card ... everybody knew everybody else. That would have been about 1973.)

Let’s hope someone vets the images for vehicle aberrations, such as limestone wheels on DBG, indicators above side lamps, and a couple of the others seen above.

My aberration certainly didn't leave the production line with limestone wheels, but some 60 year later that is how it arrived to me. I quite like limestone wheels on a DBG. :neener
