Salford University has banned the clock terminology "master" and "slave" in reference to timepieces in a move called "decolonising the curriculum!!!"
What next? Will we be banned from using the terms "master" and "slave" in reference to cylinders?
I despair!!!

No, because that triggers my memories of my ancestors who in the 1600's lived under this terrible system, and were effectively slaves in all but name.

I have been to Salford Uni'. Along with Manchester, Liverpool and JMU. O, Chester & Agricultural College also.

I've never been comfortable using the words master and slave, maybe my USA upbringing.

The words in German are translated as, "Giver" and "Taker" cylinders. Quite logical and inoffensive unless you really want them to be.

Quite! I can see more of a parallel between 'giver / taker' and 'male/female' than 'master/slave'

Oh how complicated it can be when we assume words can only have one meaning.
