In work we can no longer describe a part as 'slave'. It is now a surrogate.
I think this is demeaning to surrogates and should be replaced. With, what ? How about slave ?
Easy to spell and everyone knows what it means.  :cheers

But the slave cylinder is a slave - the master gives an order and the slave has no choice but to obey.

People who don't like that fact shouldn't use hydraulic mechanisms. Perhaps thay should buy cars with mechanical brakes?

Only if they gender identify as such. They could be Mr and Mr. Or Mrs and Mrs. Or even non-gender specific and gender fluid.

An organisation I volunteer with has "Male / Female / Other" on their application forms. When we go into the computer to input the applicant details, we are now presented with over 2 full pages of gender to choose from !

Me, I identify as a dinosaur  :cheers

Just stick to what we know ... no one's going to prosecute you for using correct technical terminology - The WSMs, parts books and service newsletters will back you up.

Meanwhile it's all click bait for social media.

I've never been comfortable using the words master and slave, maybe my USA upbringing.

The words in German are translated as, "Giver" and "Taker" cylinders. Quite logical and inoffensive unless you really want them to be.

Huh.... Slavery was by no means invented by or in the USA.  It gets old having the US singled out, or referenced to, all the time when it comes to this topic.  But... people just seem to do it.  Something that doesn't get pointed out though, in re gard the the US and slavery, and definitely isn't taught in schools is the following:

The first legal slave owner in America was black and he owned white slaves. Anthony Johnson (AD 1600 - 1670) was an Angolan who achieved freedom in the early 17th century Colony of Virginia. John Punch, white,  was the first man known to be perpetually enslaved on July 9, 1640, a punishment he received for attempting to flee his indentured servitude.

Personally I think all of this is a bunch of horse droppings, but if the 'woke' amongst the world insist in changing terms like 'master' and 'slave' - which is used in many areas including land/ownership law - why not switch them to 'politician' and 'citizen'.

Slave and master cylinder will do fine  :cheers

The world had slaves long before the US was discovered and we still have slaves.

Not often talked about are the slaves taken by North African raiders from the UK, mainland Europe and even as far away as Iceland. An estimated 1.25 million were taken, including an estimated 1500 per year during the 17th century from the UK and Ireland. It only came to a complete stop when the French conquered Algeria.

The world had slaves long before the US was discovered and we still have slaves.

If you read The Domesday Book, pulled together by William after 1066, you will see the the folk of these islands are dropped into several categories (as goods and property I suppose) including "slaves".
