Re: Possible changes to MOT - consultation

"MoT after 4 yrs from new and then every 2 yrs thereafter."

As an ex MOT tester, this is complete madness in my view...

The most that an MOT Test station can charge for a class 4 MOT is £54.85, this amount has not increased for about 10 years I believe!
Considering the recent inflation of virtually everything else in life, this is also unbelievable that the maximum cost of an MOT has not risen in that time. Despite this most garages still discount the price of an MOT, sometimes as a 'loss leader'.
I think discount MOTs are a bad thing and it is wrong to devalue the only 'mandatory' annual safety check that a vehicle is required to have.

As mentioned above, passing an MOT only states that at the time of the test, the vehicle tested was deemed in the eyes of the tester to meet a defined set of safety standards. You could hit a pot hole on the way home, especially around here and wreck your tyres and / or suspension but still have a whole year of MOT.

The 6 month Covid MOT extension period caused enough chaos for workshops and MOT centres, this increased MOT test frequency could be devastating!

Just my thoughts. Regards Mark.
