My 1972 has white and yellow plates, probably shouldn’t I guess although they look very old so must have been on a big chunk of its time. Maybe I should get black and silver ones when it’s back together

No "should" about it. Any age car may have reflective plates. Just a matter of choice to fit B&W if your car qualifies.

Here's my '61 Thames 10/12 in '76 or thereabouts.

That roofrack actually came off a '72 6-pot 12 seater SW!

By ‘72 most plates were reflective.

Fair enough- I actually quite like the metal white and yellow plates so they can stay - if ever get around to changing them for new ones can decide then on the colour scheme.

In a fun way this explains the type/style of number plates ...

The other thing to remember is that the number plate style has to match, front & rear and on any trailer or caravan. You can not mix-&-match.

Thanks for the information Wittsend. Now I'll have to swap the reflective plate on my trailer board for a black and silver one. I thought I might get away with it but ignorance of the law is no defence apparently.

Gone are the days you could just pencil the reg number on a bit of card stuck in the back window  :'(

It's all about cameras reading plates to rake the £s in  :shakeinghead

Peter

That's a good looking LR, Peter.

And it nice to see road-biased tyres for a change.

(Many early Rover publicity shots had road tyres on the vehicles).

IMO, aggressive tread patterns for vehicles that never really go off-road, are just noise-generators....

Charles, it has been in our family since 1963 and I learned to drive in it in the late 60s, my nephew is now the custodian and I have care of this one

Absolutely agree. Putting my off road driving instructor's hat on, you would be amazed what any LR can do on standard road biased tyres in off road conditions. If you look at LR Experience vehicles, they try to keep them as stock standard as possible
