Used it for a spot of agricultural breakdown support.

Bleeding David Brown tractor necessitated by sister's partner (hi vis jacket) tipping a couple of gallons of shitty red diesel in to (not!) finish a rolling job.

What's he doing underneath? I hear you ask.... jacking up the nearside rear to get the fuel tank as level as possible to let the water drain out into a bucket under the (removed) sediment bowl on the fuel pump.

^^^ OT but... The neighbour tried rolling one of their fields the other day as it was badly "poached". No go, the roller didn't roll, it slid. Way too muddy. I've stopped driving into mine until things dry out a lot more - near continuous rain forecast till Tuesday, another flood warning in force. Cattle on hard feed delivered by hand. On the upside there are some signs of the grass coming through, fresh shoots an inch or so high.

Freed off my seized engine in my new toy. Dead chuffed - even got good compression on all four pots which after umpteen years of standing is quite an achievement. Waiting for a Solex carb overhaul kit to arrive so I can then get some fuel into the system and see if I can get it started.

Gene, it is not grass, it is rice, you have a paddy field.

I bet the cattle are developing webbed feet

Hi diffwhine
Good thing the motor turns freely.
If you have not considered it, I think it is very good to replace the motor oil and its filter, they must be in very bad condition.

If you already did, or will, I haven't said anything. :cheers

Land Rover seems to have lost power recently.
Checked all the usual timing, plugs compression test etc and all seemed good.
Then I looked at my throttle linkage and found it had slipped slightly on the shaft and so was only opening half way.
Quick tighten up and its back to how it was.
Thank goodness for a quick fix!

Actually you are entirely correct and it should be done. It hasn't been done so far! My thinking was just to see if it runs, listen for any ghastly noises and smoke / compression issues and then decide on the extent of any rebuild required. As it will need new oil and filter at that point anyway, I'm just delaying the inevitable. Just got to sort out a functioning carburettor and then I'm probably good to go on a trial start.

Went out to check the running, when I got back I was going to check/adjust the timing. But there was this buzzing noise I hadn't heard before. It would go away when I blipped the throttle. I was getting a little concerned, when I noticed the breather pipe had come off - pushed it back on - noise disappeared!

Because my 6 pot is an H suffix it came with 4 side steps as standard but they had been removed before my time. So today I finally decided to fit the one folding side step I bought last year. I had tried to fit it before but the main mounting holes were too close together for the holes in the chassis rail so I needed to widen the holes before I could fit it. A few weeks ago Lidl had milling drill bits for sale which I bought specifically to do this job, it was a nice day so I thought I’d give it a go. It probably took me an hour to get all the tools together, get my PPE organised, find something to hold the weight of the step while I fitted it etc. then I was ready to go.
I started by mounting one of the legs onto the rail so that I could judge the amount of material that needed to be removed and while I was lining up the other leg I noticed that there was a little bit of give in the legs, I’d never noticed before but with one leg fixed then it was easy to gain a bit of leverage. Anyway, there was just enough give to put the second bolt in with no drilling and within 10 minutes of starting the job I had finished it. This is in complete contrast to all my other little jobs which should take me just a couple of minutes but end up taking a very frustrating half a day.
