Canvas recommendations
« on: October 22, 2020, 10:59:10 AM »

Hi guys, I have decided that £500 per year to rent a garage away from my house is too much, especially when I have my own garage full of junk. I could spend the money on my Landy and have decided that it will reside in my garage and the wife's Golf can stay out in the cold. The garage has an up and over door preventing the Landy from driving in with a full tilt on due to the hood sticks height. So I am thinking get a canvas truck cab which should be easier to drop and put up and then get in and out of the garage, plus I can the do the list of jobs in the warm and dry. Recommendation for such truck cab suppliers and reasons would be appreciated. :cheers

My first thoughts are that the hood sticks are the same height whether you have a full tilt, or a 3/4 tilt (with hard truck cab).
Are you certain that whatever supports the rear of a 'canvas truck cab' (bikini cab?) will be lower than a standard hood stick?

I appreciate that you may have included 'removing the front hood stick' in your analysis that 'a canvas truck cab should be easier to drop and put up', but I thought I'd mention it anyway.

I can't help with a supplier recommendation.

Regards.

Cheers Davidss, yep thought of that, it would be quicker just to drop the one hood stick as opposed to the complete set, especially if it's raining when I need to put it up. I have considered acquiring a spare front stick and maybe having a go at shortening the height. The Landy will fit in the garage with the overdoor drain channels in place so that may be another idea for making life easier. Anyone out there done that yet, all ideas considered, apart from selling the Landy.  :-X

Would the LR  fit if you had side opening doors to the garage?   That's what I did when ordering a new one as the up & over knocked about 2"-3" off the opening height .

And what about a roller shutter, they tend to give you a bit more height.

How much clearance do you need, just wondering if tyres/air in tyres would be enough for you to get it in?

I have a friend who can get his land rover in and out if he drives in forwards but not the other way round.  There is a very slight rise up to the garage door.
