Hi,
I was just browsing, as you do, and I found something about the Welsh Government wanting to reduce the speed limit (on roads with street lighting?0 to 20mph.
My thoughts? Speeds that low will mean a lower gear, so greater fuel consumption, and more polution. Traffic will take longer to travel the same distance, thereby using that bit of road for longer, so more congestion. Fewer deliveries in the same time, so more HGVs. There must be much more.
Question ... what is their ulterior motive? Can we assume that pedal cycles will be required to have speedometers?
My Local Authority is complaining about the reduced income from parking during lock-down.
If flashing headlamps is only allowed to show you are there, then surely it's the other driver's fault if he interprets it wrongly?
In MK, and presumably elsewhere, narrow road and parked car, the driver who decides to stop, to make way for the other car, usually gives a quick flash to say "I have stopped!" (Perhaps we should all run up a green flag) Maybe we should drive full time on headlamps, and switch them off when giving way. Alternatively, does a prolonged main beam mean "I'm coming through regardless, and my lights are brighter than yours!"
I first read the Highway Code when I was in short trousers ... and understood every word.
I suppose I'd better order a copy of the new version, plus a copy for the grand-children.
