Unfortunately a lot of it comes down to individual insurers.
For almost any classic policy, the classic, modern or otherwise has to be a second vehicle and have a limited mileage.
What is limited ? That again is down to the individual insurer.
Many years back as a Self Employed Courier, each time I employed a Driver I added them to the insurance at £35 a time. I was about to add a third when the Broker told me I could have cover for any Driver over 25 with no more than 6 points for £100.
I was glad of the info' but wish he had told me £70 ago !
Modifications are another minefield. What is a modification ?
Think I mentioned elsewhere, an insurer told me if I hard wired a Dash Cam' that was a modification. If I used the 12v socket it wasn't.  ???

Re dashcam

Assume the dashcam itself insurers want as a protection in the event of, and should reduce premium?

But like when sat navs were a stand alone unit, they want you to take it out and take it with you so it does not get stolen.

I have experienced the potential savings advice after you have paid the expensive way!

Re mileage when I told that I can have limitless and european cover and this that and the other, I do wish that you could deselect some of the things that will never be applicable.  Its seems the big comparison sites have done that, to make regular premiums appeal, then you have to pay, x amount for this x amount for that.

It always made me laugh when on series land rovers it talks about windscreen cover and excesses in the hundreds, when last I had to replace drivers side, the glass and sealing strip was £13.

I do appreciate that diy is not an option to all but that would be one I would opt to remove on a series policy.

A little aside from insurance but to do with running costs.

What mpg do you get from a 200 or 300 tdi, manual or auto?

Same question rover v8 efi?

I would be commuting just over 100 miles per trip A roads, so the series much as I rate it is not viable.

On both my previously owned 300tdi D1s 30mpg was standard. Would see 36mpg on a steady 60ish long distance run at times

thanks all

matt that seems reasonable for the freelander as they normally pan commercials.

alan rover i am with peter best but have not quizzed them re multi vehicle mixed policy.

exile rrc and series combined that is kind of what i was looking for, does the range rover have any mods or non standard bits.  the problems I have encountered I think maybe due to small deviations from stock, but i am painstaking else policy is void.

For instance manual transmission swapped to automatic.

Dan recent attempts with flux have resulted in high quotations, hence been with peter best for a good few years now.

The shed what year and engine is your d2?

Big chris, I have driven them when they first came out, jimny that is and apart from being thirsty for a small motor and a bit tiring on long journeys did not ever think I could get one on a classic or combine policy, so thanks for the heads up.

Hi.
That's fait enough. We can't be competitive on every quotation.
Regards,
Dan.

Its like Alfa Romeo...
As the engines get older, they lose power. If the vehicle rusts at a predetermined rate, you can maintain the power to weight ratio thanks to all the ferrous oxide falling off.

Works for me...

Both. They rot everywhere for fun. Great vehicles tho. Only made financial sense to run them as I'm a pretty good amateur welder and have the kit. Put new front panel, inner wings, floor pans, cills, b piller feet, body mounts, rear wheel arches, boot floor and rear body crossmember on the last one. Prolonged it's life for another 5 years untill the chassis got too bad to weld it up any more. If you see any advertised as rust free it's a lie. They rust where you can't see ie inner roof structure and upper seat belt mounts.
This is how they should be described when up for sale

Mine is ! But was Dinitrol (or something) from new. The only rotten bit was the "skid plate" under the fuel tank that was holed at the back. Easy as bolt on.

They do leak though and have that stupid open cell sponge on the floor  :shakeinghead

Following on from question regarding d1 and rrc common parts.  I ask as I am told some parts are obsolete whilst others are daft money to buy.

Does anybody remember a vehicle dubbed the strange rover,  it was rrc front and doors to the c pillar then d1 roof and rear end.  Not sure if the windscreens are the same?

Probably showing my age but, for me, the Strange Rover was Alvin Smith’s TR7 bodied RR chassis rally car. If I remember correctly, the RR chassis was back to front (rear engined) but I may be mis-remembering!

I remember both of these. The TR7 RR V8 was an amazing vehicle. Am I right in believing it was banned from competition as their was no category for it ?
And the RR/Disco was a nice looking machine IMO.
