Getting ready for a 100 mile drive to rutland for a bit of laning changed out my winter air in the tyres for fresh spring air  :bright-idea😅.

I will do , there was still a fair bit left on old shoes but adjustment had run out plus one drum had a hairline crack so thought will change all of them .

Took apart my Shelley jack.  Despite the five gallons of grease covering it, I'm not seeing any real signs of wear or use. The internals were in immaculate condition.

It's a model LJ32, which according to that fascinating website on British jacks, was part of the standard rig accompanying a Forward Control and not a 1965  2a.

So the question becomes, what colour to paint it?  Purist black or something fun...?

If you are talking about the 3rd 4th synchro, yes it can be done through the top, but you need the patience of a saint and a great deal of perseverance. I've never had one lose all its springs though. Are you sure that's all that's wrong?
I take it you have found and removed the remains of the old springs and they haven't damaged anything else? They have a habit of grinding up in bearings.

I should mention this is a series 3 box, I've been driving it around with 1 spring missing for a while, then the other 2 decided to make a break for it after a bit. I've had the box apart and everything else is great on it still, 2 of the 3 springs fell out complete somehow, 1 got eaten by a gear. all bearings are fine still.

reading that, I think I better pray to the land rover gods :o

In my view it would only be possible if you knew that the surface the springs slide on is completely flat and not worn as in the picture. If there are  grooves worn, it's very difficult to
replace the springs even with the  synchro unit removed and sitting on the bench. With  grooves worn the springs would also be less effective right from the start.
I've tried it just for fun and failed miserably, for the above reason.

When I've done synchro springs I've had the unit in hand in front of me, and they can be fiddly enough then, with sossidge fingers!  I wouldn't even attempt to do them in situ personally.

Hauled the caravan over to Cenarth Falls in Ceredigion for what could be a soggy couple of days away!

It's not actually raining right now- time to risk a run over to the toilet block!
