Per James Taylor, both 2 litre and 2.25 litre diesel and petrol cylinder blocks were painted Light Admiralty Grey, if that's any help.

Maybe the Ferguson Grey is the 2.0 Diesel colour?  ??? I'm beginning to think I may be on the right track with the late diesel colour.
It probably will go down to a Eurovision style vote!

Taylor says Light Admiralty Grey for diesel and petrol, 2 and 2.25.

Tony, I think you are right, if memory serves. Where it went after Mark & Ian, I'm not sure, but it might have gone up to Alex Thorpe ???

Then there was another cut-away, from a school or collage. Maybe that's the one that went to Mark & Ian's, or there could have been 2 of these out in the wild ???

Mark, I’ve researched a lot of threads on the block colour (although I’m not repainting mine now as I like the stencilled numbers on it). Consensus seemed to be that the s1 diesel gray is the correct one for an early s2. Water pump would be grey as well.

Let me know when you’re around, and I’ll get that manifold out of the loft for you 👍

Taylor does mention Light Admiralty Grey (The Paintman code for Light Admiralty Grey is BS381C-697) for engine blocks and I based my paint decision on that premise

....but this direct comment from Paintman does add a little more depth......

"For engine paints, a 500ml tin should cover an engine. The Land Rover engine greys have been matched to the original shades, as there are two separate shades for petrol and diesel. However, any of our shades can be mixed as an engine paint, the Light Admirality Grey is a close shade to the Land Rover diesel engine paint. I will add the Land Rover diesel paint onto the order, but if you would like to edit this, please let me know"

I ended up purchasing Paintmans "Landrover Engine Grey" for petrol.

Was that the one that was mounted on a trailer (probably part of an old chassis) and taken around the shows back in the 90s? Not seen it for years if it was.

Best I can do with 2lt diesel grey. (Most of mine are just rust and old oil! :agh)

I am sure it continued into early 2.25 engines,
