I posted this back in March ...

Happy Birthday to you   :-*

Some on here have advocated using a cable between your BT box and your laptop.
This eBay link shows the type of cable you need.
auction: #322216272146
 :-\ Buy this cable.
I've selected one 5m long.
If you need a longer cable there are plenty to choose from.

Tis a "messy" solution as you'll have a cable trailing round the house and plugged into the back of your laptop - can make things a bit more awkward - but hard wiring to the internet should mean you don't get a dropped connection.

Get the cable and see how it goes with that .....

Have you not ordered that cable off eBay - it should be with you by now ???

Hi Alan,

Yes, cable received many yonks ago, but ...

... are you telling me that I can plug my LAP TOP into the BT supply? I thought lap-tops were wireless only?

My previous queries were about my desk-top, which went to the "Great desk in the sky".

Extra question...

If I already have the shorter pull-through studs fitted, but I wanted to "upgrade" to the longer ones, how big is the risk that when I drive out the short one, it will leave a hole that is too large for a new one? It is kind of meant to be a one-time process, but I suppose as long as the diameters are close, new-stud to old-stud, and you arrange that the new stud splines don't go exactly into the old stud spline "slots", it would be okay.

I think I have replaced one of my original "short" stud pull-thoughs with another one last year, as the thread was a bit damaged. I just about got away with it that time.

[originally I opened up my holes carefully with a file, way back in 1988]

If anyone is interested, I would order a set of ten extended stude from Zeus and then send out 1 or 2 to anyone else who wants them.
I would keep a few for myself but have no need (yet anyway!) for all ten.  It would be just be the cost to me per stud, plus the cost of onward shipping.

Hi Alan,

Reference your concern about cables lying over the halll floor ... there is a socket (not the master) just the other side of the walll between my "study" and our bedroom. A discreet hole drilled through at skirting level would be seen by nobody.

Or I can go vertically from the master, through the ceiling, and back down again, into the study... but the verticals will eat into the avalaible length.
