Are you near to Liverpool docks Dentman? Can you get a regular supply?  ;)
Dom Perignon is closer to £200 a litre in the wine merchants and at least double that in hotels / clubs / restaurants   :agh
Ah but you're from CHESHIRE, and so in touch with Champagne tastes!  ;)

No one needs to buy into the ink contract con you just decline the invitation when setting up the printer.  If you have already set up and cant find away to cancel then remove your printer connection physicaly (undo the usb cable), remove the software and then install the printer and just dont accept the invitation for the inlk contract.  It may be that you have to decline the invitation several times, they are quite persistent.  A printer will work without the contract you just buy your ink from your preferred supplier.

I forgot last time we were talking about printers, the HP all in one that we scrapped a few months ago was an absolute pain, it refused to work with compatible cartridges and we had to buy rip off genuine ones, I was glad when it broke.  Our ancient HP laser printer runs on compatible toner cartridges ad a hensive £2 per go delivered and as yet not needed a new drum, when that time comes i will scrap it.  The Brothet compatible cartridges, 4 seperate ones are cheap and you can buy a really really large black one seems to function well.  I checked with my friend who recommended the cartridghes and he has used them in his Brother printer for 8 years with no problem.

Home printers are classed as disposable items in the IT business but there is still a very effiecient windows 10 driver for our ancient klaser printer, I am not sure how that works.

I'm in the hills in a far flung corner of Cheshire, about a mile from Lancashire, 3 miles from Derbyshire and 5 miles from Yorkshire. I'm in touch with all sorts of tastes (black pudding / Yorkshire pudding / Bakewell tart) and this part of Cheshire certainly defies the stereotype.

As this is a 602 initiated post I guess it is ok to go off the beaten path? I have had Dom Perignon but don't rate it. I was given a bottle by a hotel in Dublin as an apology for me spending much of the night stood on a Dublin street in my jimjams.

These are the kind of cars that only a dentist could afford. The guy up the road deals in super cars.

Hi,

OK ... I found the instruction ... 126 pages ... but  I can't print them, cos I don't know how.

I am unfitted for the modern world. I'll wait until this afternoon, let my daughter sort it out.

Hi,

I'm continuing with this saga, as I suspect there are others on this forum who are looking for a cheap printer. This printer was the cheapest (£51) that we could find, and presumably is by a reputable manufacturer.

The saga continues ... I've managed to find what appears to be Operating Instructions that arev spread over a managable number of pages

https://www.argos-support.co.uk/instruction-manual/1706688-canon-pixma-mg2550-all-in-one-printer.pdf

But when I try to log on, it seems to demand that I "accept" cookies.

OK ... what are "cookies"? And do I want to accept them?

Hi Big H,

It could have been worse.

Visulise a transparent negligee ... where people can see thru to your vest.

Barbara was ambulanced to the Medical Centre at the RAAF Hostel, on Penang ... dislocated little toe. (That will teach her to kick the dog ... and miss).

They strapped it up, and left her to her own devices, to get home ... wearing nothing but a shortie nighty.

Cookies are little bits of code that tells the website who you are and things like your username and password.
If you want a fuller explanation just Goooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooogle "computer cookies".

You want to accept them - This forum uses cookies.

You should NOT be worried about accepting cookies - if you have a properly set up computer and perform regular "house keeping" tasks. There are lots of PC "clean up" applications out there.

Now here's an idea...

Why not pop along to your Post Office in the Hight Street and have a look at the cards for services - things for sale etc.
I bet you that there will be someone offering Computer help/repair.

And/or - buy a copy of your local parish magazine from the Post Office. Again - in the adverts I bet there's someone offering computer repairs/ IT services.

And if that draws a blank - have a look in the Fish & Chip for advert cards.

There must be someone local who can come round and properly set up your computer(s) your WiFi and printer.

Hi Alan,

Thanks for the thoughts.

My local Post Office is at the other end of the same counter as newspapers, sweets, and lottery tickets, etc. No notice boards. I must look up the population of Two Mile Ash.

I do have a "man" (ex -BT) who installed my previous printer, but I feel he is still finding his feet.  He is not making house calls during "lock-down".  Our previous "man" was in South Wales (again ex-BT) ... became firm family friends with him and his wife, stiill get Xmas cards, and the odd email.

My daughter came in today, says she has sorted the new printer ... and got rid of the junk left by the old one. I have not yet tried the printer, but I doubt that it would dare to disobey her.

Hmmm! My daughter ... thirty yeas ago, she was a VAT Inspector in South East London. Twenty years ago, she was a "fish wife" .... helping her then husband manage a wet fish shop, which included the adroit use of a filleting knife. If ever I bring her to a pub meet, feel free to ask what she does now ... it's conversation stopper.
