It's not an easy read, so just give it a quick scan. You can find it again by Googling ... RTA INSURANCE.

It seems to have been changed a bit since I last read it.

There is a short reference to "Vehicles being taken to a place to be scrapped" I couldn't be naffed to work out what it meant, but wondered if such vehicles are exempt from requiring insurance. I'll save that for another day.

Hi Stuart,

When I started driving, you could "insure yourself" by depositing £10,000 with the Attorney General. Last time I looked in the RTAs, it was £1,000,000.

Barbara was side swiped on the M4, by a super-market semi-trailer. They ignored all correspondence. We found out later that they insured  themselves. Presumably, a million quid for all their trucks works out cheaper ... and you still have the million  until somebody make a claim. Be prepared to play hard-ball.

My son works as a driver for one of the major supermarkets who are self insured. They seem to pay out very readily!
