Hi,

DG54XUV, It came with a new MOT.

The DVLA MOT check website says it was MOT'd on 7th September, so probably my Consumer Rights have time expired ... just.

Wilkie is going to have a hard time today.

Hi,

I've done some Googling,m and found mention of a possible problem (which I didn't fully understand) but sounded a simple fix. But more of that in a few minutes.

In the meantime, strong words with Barbara, who accepted that I really wanted a Disco. Minutes later she said there was a Disco for sale locally, at £6,000, and did I want it? I said "Not at that price! And I know nothing about V6 Discos, but suspected expensive VED and insurance" - the bloke across the road is paying £600pa VED for his RAV)

I "done a Google" this morning, found two Landrover specialists within "two hoots and a holler", both with lots of stars. Does anybody know SS LAND ROVER in Stony Strattford, and/or  COWLEY & Co in Whaddon? The latter would have the "edge" (all else being equal), as my daughter has an account with a local taxi firm. I'm guessing this would be in Gibbo's "manor"?

OT ... Discos. Some of you may remember when Barbara turned the igniion key, and VERY promptly wrote off her rather nice, VED exempt SAAB 900i, my rather nice Disco, and the Transit "type" van that was parked across the road. :agh The assessors stopped counting when the tally for SAAB body parts reached £7,000.

Our insurers (LV) said the book value on the SAAB was £250, but their book didn't go back far enough, and would we like to suggest va higher figure. We went them a copy of valuations from Classic Car magazine, copies of EBAY listyiongs, and a letter from our local (one man) SAAB specialist, who was familiar with the car. We settled at £700. I accepted £650 for the Disco.

I wish I could find either car at those prices today.

Spoke to  friend of mine in the area who runs a garage and his reply was :-
Just a bit overworked at the moment,
probably in Milton Keynes area ,
BME Barnwell motor engineering,
or Cowley & Co , at Whaddon,
are two independent Land Rover specialists,
who could sort this out

John , I would be happy to use John Cowley in Whaddon, or alternatively Loughran Brothers in Towcester.

If you looking for a Disco 3 I would heartily recommend waiting for one with good service history. These can be a money pit if not looked after and repairs can be expensive.
As others have suggested your Freelander fault could be a bearing but have you checked for anything stuck between disc and back plate ?
The warning lights you mention are often an indication of ABS faults so you need a good diagnostic check along with someone with a good ear.
Good luck
