Problem assembling hood and sticks set
« on: May 31, 2023, 05:28:44 PM »

I fitted the a new hood and sticks set a few days back. I can't get the front screen rail to align flush with the front of the windscreen in order to rivet it flush as both edges collide with the downwards angles of the over-door drain channels - see pic for details. I've had no joy so far getting an answer from the supplier (Exmoor) and they don't think an answer is likely before next week, which means I can't fit the canvas roof or use the truck securely.

Am I doing something wrong? To me it seems it'll only work if I angle grind off a triangular section of the edges of the screen rail, but I've been told not to do that  ???

Hi
Have you tried the doortop channel over the windscreen rail ??,wouldn't want the canvas rubbing on a sharp edge.

When I fitted mine I put the sharkstooth rail onto the windscreen  first

I'm pretty sure Peter is correct. The sharktooth rail stays on the screen regardless of the other brackets, so I think sits underneath all that.

Not sure if this image shows enough...

Interesting observations - thanks.

I followed the video, where he clearly hasn't yet riveted the front screen rail down as he inserts the side rail channels - this is the moment. As he pushes the sides in, the front raises up. I followed this exactly, but can't get past the 45 degree angles of the edges.

Looking at the photos on their website, it certainly seems like the shark tooth rail sits there first and that's how I've always done it.

Mark your photo showing the side piece on top of the sharks tooth is correct

Fascinating - that's the complete opposite of what the guy does on the video, to which I resorted after not being able to make head nor tail of the instructions. I'm now even more confused! 4 mins, 10 seconds in:

Here's a shot of the one rebuilt during lockdown (before stripdown I might add!).

Cheers Mark,

I've emailed them to ask why the video instructions are so different to the link above. V annoying as all seems to fit otherwise   ???

Morning all, just to loop back on this, I've now spoken to Exmoor at length and they reckon that my set is faulty, so are sending new over-door channels and a new shark tooth front rail. They say both fitting methods are possible - tucking the rail in first or riveting the front rail down first, but recommend the former, as per the video, as they say it's better for rain protection.
