Fuel Discount Card
« on: February 13, 2020, 03:38:54 PM »

I have been using Shell garages for my fuel as they had a half decent loyalty scheme, however it has now been updated to an "app", and I have discovered the new discount vouchers earned expire!

I noticed in the MMOC mag there was a scheme called "Fuelpecker" available to members(I have signed up).  Is this something that could be arranged for the club? The discounts are not insignificant, see attached:

Shell fuels are half decent  :first

I will pass this on to the Board.

My 1st question would be: Is there a minimum purchase of litres per month/year.
Because although Land Rovers are thirsty, some (of us) only do a few miles a year.

2nd
This would be a benefit to paid up S2C members.

3rd
I assume this applies to any vehicle you fill up with; car, bike, Series 2 etc.
Do they read your number plate as part of this (they can't all read black/white/silver plates).

4th
How exactly is the discount administered/applied ?
Do you present a card at the till ?
I hope you don't have to sign something at every purchase.
Anything that slows down the payment process is not so good.

5th
What about auto 24hr pumps ???

1) No, there is no minimum purchase

2) Agreed

3) You don't need to register a particular vehicle, and can use it for any vehicle. They ask for the  reg number of the vehicle you have filled at the checkout.

4) When you apply for a card, you have to provide debit card details. They send you a card which you use to pay. Your debit card is subsequently debited for the fuel less the discount a few days later.

5) Won't work

Re item 4, I get cashback with my credit card so having to use a debit card would reduce the cashback. So it would be a matter of checking the fuel discount against the cashback rate to see if this is worth following up.

That said I think this is good idea in principle.   :first

I think my calculations are about right.

With a petrol Series you'd have to drive 10,000 miles a year to save the cost of your club membership.
... and 12,000 miles if you have a diesel ???

Or am I wrong  :stars
