OT - Checking when new V5 issued.
« on: September 03, 2019, 12:53:24 PM »

I bought a vehicle 3 weeks ago, and have yet to receive a new V5.
I saw on DVLA website that you can check when a new V5 was issued (see bottom of page http://www.dvla-contact-number.co.uk/vehicle-registration/) but website appears to just take you round in circles, unless I am missing something  ???

It wouldn't matter if their "webchat" actually worked, or if they would answer the phone, but it appears that both are beyond their capabilities :shakeinghead

Any ideas, apart from "just wait"?

I wouldn't worry too much, what staff they have left are very busy. Whenever I have had cause to speak to them they have been really helpful and know their stuff. Three weeks isn't too bad, three months might be more of a concern...

My wife got the "no longer responsible for..." letter within a week or so and we sold via a trader. I thought they usually quoted a month for anything from DVLA?

Not a great problem, but I wanted to t/f a number on to it and think I need the V5 for that. I can wait, but their website seems to suggest you can find out online when the new V5 was issued, but I cannot find where. Maybe it was removed when they "enhanced" their data protection.

Hi,

Me? I'd send a letter to the Director of DVLA,, asking him to tell the Head of Vehicle Enquiries to telephone/email you (Give him the contact details) as you would rather not interrupt your MP ... as he is rather busy at the moment.

Update. DVLA are now saying 4 to 6 weeks to issue a V5 to new owner. Funny that you can tax it right away though!

When I sold my last Dormobile, I did all the V5 changes online

Hi Worf,

Does the information you can access, give you any document numbers? If so, you can calculate when your document entered the system.

The first digit should be a 9, as in 19, as in 2019. The next three digits will give you the day number within the year,... I'd guess 240 to 250ish. ???

If my team didn't clear a batch (100 documents) within three weeks (seldom our fault) somebody would come down from Systems, and have  a rant. This happened twice while I was in charge. Most batches, probably a couple of tons of paper were cleared by the first or second day. Once a batch cleared my team, documents were dealt with individually, by somebody else's team.

Mind you, my knowledge stopped in 1985, when I retired.

PS. The Millenium Bug may have affected the numbering system.

PPS, Licence applications by people over one hundred years old frequently failed, as the computer identified them as being too young, or not even born yet.  EG: This is 2019. If you were born in 1918, the computer would think you were one year old. But these were few enough to handle clerically, subject to a short delay while the clerks were given the problem to solve.
