In my fire department S3 109 Station (11,000 miles from new) I found the assembly line build ticket behind the dash, with the boxes for its special accessories checked off by hand, for example the gearbox bash plate (awesome bit of kit) and the ashtray.

In the rear toolbox there were several dozen lottery tickets from 1972, each with a local Birmingham football team member's sideburned photo and profile. Most were artistically enhanced with a pen (moustaches, glasses, tooth gaps, devil horns) and smeared with rubber glue, presumably from the assembly line.

Only to be removed by me, 35 years and a continent away!

Years ago I worked for a firm that bought dozens at a time new Mil spec 109's for installing comms packages in.
On one of the test runs after installation, one caught fire and was a complete loss.
Investigation of the burnt shell showed it was full of filler in many of the panels - so it was already damaged & repaired before it left Landrover!

The company wasnt too impressed with Land Rover...but then it was the 1980's...

I found a copy of a cinema timetable from 1967 for a small Swiss town screwed up and shoved behind the rear trim panel in my 88. In the same location was an empty bottle of aftershave / perfume.
There was also a 10 mm spanner jammed on one of the bolts retaining the bottoms edge of the rad panel.

I kept the newspaper cutting in the folder of the vehicle
The little bottle sits on my desk and the spanners in the ammo box.

The first Series Land Rover I bought, a 1981 Series 3 109 Stage One pick-up, had a 2 ton screw jack in the back wrapped in perfectly new white T-shirts, five in total, with NewellRubbermaid on the back, few oil and rust stains of course. The T-shirts I still wear, the Rover found a knew home…

From memory the stage one is masai red, very nice.

My screw jack came from my dads freight rover 350 same as the one range rovers had, great bit of kit.

Rear of Series 3 steering wheel centre cap. 1973, so she’s older now.

Nice thought, but it’s been here since new. Presumably she had a hand in building it. ???
