Replacement for a 109 ... if you must.
« on: January 03, 2020, 07:01:35 AM »

Hi,

While researching Barbara's replacement car … she will be reduced to driving an automatic after her new knees are fitted - I came across the DACIA LOGAN (Google). It seems to be a lot of car for the money. I haven't actually seen one yet, but It might make a replacement for a sick 109", at a price that will let you keep both.

I haven't found any reference to an automatic version, so probably a non-starter for us.

Check the amount of toys you get for the lower price. The Duster also looks to be good value until you add things like 4wd & decent engine.... Still not silly money, but no longer "cheap".

Pretty sure there are no 'auto' versions though. Got that impression when I looked a while back but an 'up to date' check on the manufacturer's website might confirm?

Hi,

When I had my Rover 60, hitch hikers would ask me what the big knob on the dash was for. ???

It's so I can do this!" as I did a clutchless shift into first gear at 60mph.

If that free-wheel" device could be married to an centrifugal clutch, as fitted to a Citroen 2CV ….. where's my pencil …

Hi Rob,

Agreed … not many toys on/in a Dacia. But there are not many on a Series 2 either.

I was thinking of somebody who has "lost" their civilised transport, and needs to replace it quickly, for as little cash as possible, but still needs to park in the Junior Executive's car park, and needs something that is reliable.

Or someone like me, born before WW2, hasn't picked up a spanner since the Summer, of 2018, but needs something big enough to carry us,  our daughter and her two ginormous offspring, the pooch, a wheelchair and WHY, and unlikely to be banned from the centre of Milton Keynes f0r political reasons within the next few years.

Whichever, it will need to be an automatic, and have power steering.

Perhaps the only solution is to build one.  :whistle  I have such urges lurking in the background.

You'll need something electric (or petrol/electric hybrid) then.

Hi Alan,

I love you too!

Somebody should study fairground dodgems, and develop a similar over-head grid for highways … not as restrictive as trams and trolley-buses … overtaking would be possible.
