Noticed last night that this is coming to Quest (Freeview 12/114) later this month. First episode featured a S2A owned by one of our members!

I’ve seen that - been available on one of the subscription services for some time - I have to say it’s very ‘made for tv’.

Concept is that (using this first episode as an example) someone owns a slightly ratty new-style mini valued at £1000. They would like their ‘dream car’, a Series 2, valued at £6000 or something. So along comes Mike Brewer, who takes said mini away, polishes it and sells it for a bit more than £1000. Then uses that money to buy something else, etc, gradually trading his way up to being able to buy the Land Rover that the original owner of the mini wanted.

Amongst this Mike has a sidekick (can’t recall his name, it’s not Edd China or Ant Antstead in this series) who does the work to ‘add value’ to the interim vehicles.

If I recall correctly, in this particular episode there is a very odd decision made in the middle of it all to buy an old horse box and convert it into a catering trailer - the working time and cost of materials to do it never seeming to be accounted for in the programme - making something of a mockery of the premise of the show if you ask me.

I watched it because it had a S2 in it, I never bothered with any of the rest of the series.

Mike's sidekick in this series is Marc 'Elvis' Priestly. At the end of Wheeler Dealers series 16 they packed up their Californian base to return to the UK for series 17. In the process they left Ant behind as well    and Marc will be the new spannery-dude  in series 17.

Its a great pity they didn't leave Brewer there with Anstead.

The producers should beg Edd China to make the programme that it always should have been. It was, in my opinion, his mastery of his profession together with the manner in which he did it, that made watching the programme enjoyable.

When I 'got into' the Ant series, I was surprised that he was actually very good and worth watching. He has some serious kit. Did you see him on the English wheel? Different from Edd.

It's the recurring presenter I find annoying!

The original series didn't have Ed either. It was set up like a car show room from memory. Two guys (one being Mike) selling cars.

When I 'got into' the Ant series, I was surprised that he was actually very good and worth watching. He has some serious kit. Did you see him on the English wheel? Different from Edd.

Ant was unquestionably skilled in what he did. My problem with him (and Mike Brewer) was his absolute arrogance, demonic eyes staring at you while he showed you just how wonderful he was. By comparison Edd was totally self-effacing in how he did things. In early episodes he worked with tools the ordinary man might have, before developing his presentation style and his tool-kit.

I realise our likes and dislikes are all very subjective but if there is one personality trait I dislike the most its arrogance.

Yep the Jenson`s a lovely motor, but my vote goes to the Jaguar XK120  .

In May 1949 one of these beauties, an XK120C (C for Competition) was timed over the mile at 136.596 MPH, 0 to 60 in 10.00 seconds. Reputed to be the very first Super-Car, certainly it was the worlds fastest production car. And on top of all that it was a stunningly beautiful motor.
 
The one shown here is not the Competition model.

As was said previously, these series are made.. very much for tv...    At first they are a novelty, then after time most of them become annoying, especially when they resort to the silly stuff as in SOS, and that muppet Tim.
