I went to the dump this morning to get rid of some garden waste. Nothing unusual there. The dump restricts use by operating  odd/even number plate days. So some days its 2 4 6 8 0 and others its 1 3 5 7 9. My plate ends in  890 H (1969). So this would be an even number. When I got to the dump the man in charge spent a long time looking at the number plate, standard black and silver,  finally said I couldn't go in as I had an odd number. I explained that it was 890 H . He was reading it as 89 OH. After a bit of conversation where I explained it was the old H being registered in 1969 and a call to his supervisor I was let in. His words to the supervisor ' Got a Land Rover here and I can't work out the registration'.
 Anyone else had problems with recognition?

Spot the Landrover
It took us to a walk in the Beacons. Early to miss the crowds. By the time we were on the way home, all legal parking was full, loads of illegal parking, and had to stop for at least 30 cars coming in to what is quite a limited area for traffic. Can't blame them, it's what we were doing, we just live closer. The BBNP transport and parking initiative needs revisiting methinks.

I've had parking tickets because customers type an 0 instead of an O when entering my van reg on residents parking apps.
The 0/O on number plates is a pain. It's crazy that they are identical on a number plate.

When I was at college in 1979 I went to a student organised event where they were charging for parking based on the vehicle's registration suffix letter.  The charges went up as the vehicle got newer.  The theory was that the newer the vehicle would be owned by a richer student, more able to afford a higher parking charge.

My series 2, registration AAL was charged as a 'L' suffix.  In those days a 'L' would have been a two or three year old vehicle.  Even though I explained that I should be parking for free because it had no suffix letter I was made to pay!   

Even in those days people were not very aware of the differences in vehicle registrations.

.... tried the ladder fastening with rope.

Then came the magic bit, the rope was wrapped around the fastening in the centre, through the rungs and back down one of the jam cleats, then back through the rungs to the second jam cleat.
There were thus two fixings to forestall the chance of the ladder leaving the vehicle because of the rope coming loose from one of the jam cleats.

The rope was woven cotton manila.
