A good coating of Owatrol oil. I never realised how faded it was!

Went mad with Hydrate-80 Bilt Hamber bulkhead engine side, doors along with other surface rust stuff after chassis and engine clean it's really good stuff ready for wax oil end of the month after some other work has been done underneath. Getting there slowly (with the work that is)

Today was cylinder head refurbish to counter a rich running engine. Cylinders cleaned and all OK, cylinder head had new valves lapped in, along with new seals. Refitted ready for test run tomorrow. 👍

Removed the winch from the front of Freda, I rarely use it and have acquired a flat apron.
The winch with all the extras will be up for sale soon.

Freda - a great name for a Land Rover... I had a Defender in Sarajevo called Bjorn - maybe we could redo Abba's avatars with old LRs... :bright-idea

Picked it up from the mechanics and then run it home the long way. A nice twelve mile run just.

A few series 2 owners (and others) got together today in Suffolk.

Great venue choice and arrangement from Chris Mortimer, everyone seemed to like my greenlane route and thanks to Kirk from AllterrainUK for taking out the first group and briefing people on responsible greenlaning.

A few series 2 owners (and others) got together today in Suffolk.

Great venue choice and arrangement from Chris Mortimer, everyone seemed to like my greenlane route and thanks to Kirk from AllterrainUK for taking out the first group and briefing people on responsible greenlaning.

Didn't get to the Suffolk gathering at Clare Castle Country Park as we had originally planned, (SWMBO had said "OK, it's Fathers Day")

Prepped Dormy yesterday. Spent the afternoon washing and cleaning her.
SWMBO said "That's the first time in years !" I said "It's a Land Rover, it should actually be dirty !"
Took it to the local filling station and put in enough for the 140 mile round trip and did a slightly extended run home - Just to make sure.

We got on the road today just after 8am and noticed straight away that I was still needing to pull the choke long after the engine should have warmed up. Persevered a few miles but had to admit defeat and turn for home. Sent apologies to the organiser, then set about pulling the top off the carb and getting the jets out. Got Dormy going again and another test drive showed she was running normally.

Not wasting an opportunity, I suggested we go on a run to somewhere SWMBO had mentioned and give Dormy a bit of an extended run - just to make sure. This took us the 30 miles to Felbrigg Hall in North Norfolk where we wandered around and had a picnic. On the way home we stopped at a garden centre in North Walsham (see photo in carpark). Final run home was without incident and Dormy still has half a tank of petrol just asking to be used before it goes off (modern rubbish).

Nearside hub still slight play So will have another look at it
MOT tester not happy with underseal also slight oil leak and showing signs of corrosion but not significant So same advisories as last year. Will have a look under it when I get chance Any loose underseal I'll brush off Any rust spots I'll get some rust converter stuff on and then paint over
I'd left it with mechanic so he could put in a passenger footwell and new gasket on transfer box and change oils in gearbox/transfer box That might help oil leak He never really rushes doing any jobs unless I put a timescale on it But I'm not complaining because he charges less than garages.

Apparently they are not keen on it because it may hide issues.
Its only the last two years it's been mentioned And it's been on about ten years

I dont like underseal but that stems from years ago running old cars wherewater got behind the underseal and caused rot that you couldnt see.

The chassis on YOD is painted and along with the Romahome has been treated with Lanoshield so we will see how they go.  When the Romahome went for its MOT recently the tester commented about it being treated with wax underneath.
